Doha: An emergency ministerial meeting of the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) has called for the resumption of nuclear negotiations between Iran and the United States. The meeting's final statement welcomed US President Donald Trump's announcement of a ceasefire agreement between Iran and Israel.

According to Anadolu Agency, GCC Secretary-General Jassim Albudaiwi expressed the council's 'deep regret and strong condemnation' of an Iranian missile attack on a US air base located on Qatari territory. Albudaiwi emphasized that this act constitutes a blatant violation of Qatar's sovereignty and international law.

The gathering took place shortly after Iran launched missiles at the US Al Udeid Base in Qatar. This strike was in retaliation for US attacks on three Iranian nuclear sites. The GCC has called for an immediate halt to all military activities and urged a return to negotiations for sustainable solutions.

The council underscored the importance of this moment to pave a new path toward a positive future for the region. It also affirmed its readiness to support efforts in this direction.

Tehran and Washington had previously engaged in five rounds of Oman-mediated talks regarding Iran's nuclear program. The sixth round was canceled following Israeli airstrikes on Iran. Since June 13, Israel has targeted several sites in Iran, citing concerns over nuclear weapon development, a claim Iran denies.

In response to Israeli actions, Iran launched missile and drone attacks, which led to US involvement with airstrikes on Iranian nuclear sites. After days of hostilities, President Trump announced a ceasefire between Israel and Iran, aiming to end the conflict.
