Oslo: The US plans to hold nuclear talks with Iran in Norway next week, Axios reported Thursday. US President Donald Trump's Middle East representative, Steve Witkoff, is set to meet Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi for the first time since tensions escalated due to Israeli strikes and a subsequent US bombing of Iranian nuclear facilities, according to two sources familiar with the matter.

According to Anadolu Agency, sources have indicated that a final date for the discussions in Oslo has not yet been established. Neither the US nor Iran has confirmed these talks. The White House stated it does not have "travel announcements at this time," while Iran's UN mission declined to comment on the matter.

The nuclear discussions between Washington and Tehran had ceased following the Israeli attacks. President Trump, in a statement on Monday, emphasized, "I am not offering Iran ANYTHING . nor am I even talking to them." Despite this, he announced last week that talks with Iran were scheduled for this week with the possibility of a deal, although he noted, "I don't think it's that necessary."

The Trump administration claimed that the recent bombing had significantly damaged Iran's nuclear capacity, setting its program back by years. The upcoming talks in Norway mark a critical step in addressing the longstanding tensions between the two nations.
