Washington: The consumer price index in the US exceeded expectations in June, according to official figures released on Tuesday.

According to Anadolu Agency, the country's annual inflation rate was 2.7%, surpassing market expectations of 2.6%. While the food index posted an increase of 3% in June, the energy index declined 0.8% on a yearly basis.

The monthly price increase was 0.3%, aligning with forecasts. The index for shelter rose 0.2% in June and was the primary factor in the overall monthly increase of all items.
