Reykjanes peninsula: A volcano erupted in Iceland's southwestern Reykjanes Peninsula early Wednesday for the ninth time in almost two years, according to public broadcaster RUV. The eruption began in the early hours at the Sundhnukagigar craters, continuing the series of volcanic activities that Iceland has experienced since December 2023.

According to Anadolu Agency, Benedikt Ofeigsson, a geophysicist at the Icelandic Meteorological Institute, stated that the eruption does not appear to be very large. He noted that the fissure is approximately 2 kilometers (1.2 miles) long, with limited ground deformation and magma flow.

While the volcano's activity has not disrupted air traffic, the air quality in the nearby area is reported to be poor. Residents have been advised to keep their windows closed to avoid exposure to the adverse conditions.
