Ankara: The Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) has vehemently condemned Israel's ongoing blockade of the Gaza Strip, labeling the starvation policy as the 'crime of the century.' The GCC's Secretary-General, Jassem Al-Budaiwi, has called for urgent international intervention, accusing Israel of perpetuating a humanitarian catastrophe through its blockade and prevention of aid deliveries.

According to Anadolu Agency, Al-Budaiwi emphasized Israel's full responsibility for the dire situation in Gaza, asserting that the deliberate starvation policy constitutes a war crime demanding immediate accountability. He highlighted the severe repercussions of the siege, including widespread famine and the collapse of essential health and food systems within the Palestinian territory.

Al-Budaiwi urged for immediate and unconditional international action to halt the blockade and ensure unhindered access to food and medical supplies. He stressed that the ongoing siege violates international humanitarian norms, the Geneva Conventions, and fundamental human rights principles. The GCC's call to action includes reopening border crossings to prevent further starvation-related deaths and protect innocent civilians.

Reaffirming the GCC's commitment to the Palestinian cause, Al-Budaiwi underscored the need for upholding the legitimate rights of Palestinians in accordance with international law and the Arab Peace Initiative. Meanwhile, the Israeli military continues its offensive in Gaza, which began on October 7, 2023, resulting in the deaths of nearly 59,000 Palestinians, predominantly women and children. The assault has devastated the enclave, exacerbating food shortages and spreading disease.

The International Criminal Court has previously issued arrest warrants for Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and former Defense Minister Yoav Gallant for alleged war crimes and crimes against humanity in Gaza. Additionally, Israel faces genocide charges at the International Court of Justice concerning its actions in the enclave.
