Trkiye’s Aselsan Unveils Advanced Systems for Steel Dome Air Defense

Istanbul: Turkish firm Aselsan unveiled new systems developed to be integrated into Trkiye's Steel Dome multi-layered air defense, as showcased at this week's International Defense Industry Fair (IDEF 2025) in Istanbul. Ahmet Akyol, the firm's CEO, detailed the innovations, including the Ejderha system aimed at neutralizing air threats such as swarm and kamikaze drones.

According to Anadolu Agency, Akyol presented the electromagnetic shield of the Steel Dome on the international stage for the first time. This technology can physically disable electronic circuits of aerial vehicles within a range of approximately a kilometer. The Ejderha system uses high-power electronic waves as a protective measure, while the upgraded Koral electronic warfare system will jam and scramble hostile radar, enhancing the performance of Trkiye's aircraft and UAVs against enemy defenses.

Akyol also introduced the Turan system, an AI-powered architecture for managing the multi-layered air system from a single network, and the Gurz, an autonomous missile defense system designed as an unmanned ground vehicle. The Goktan air defense technology was highlighted for integrating missile systems with guided munitions, allowing ground-based launches to specific altitudes.

Aselsan's innovations align with NATO's air defense architecture and include the Goktan land-based precision strike system for accuracy against threats, resistant to GNSS jamming. The Koral 200's new version aims to silence enemy air defenses, while Ejderha neutralizes drones with microwaves. The seamless connectivity and robust encryption of the Turan system ensure coordinated defense efforts, and the Gurz system targets short-range aircraft with missiles.

The IDEF 2025 fair, now in its 17th iteration, commenced on Tuesday, organized by KFA Fairs with support from Trkiye's Defense Industries Secretariat and the Turkish Armed Forces Foundation, with Anadolu as the global communications partner.
