Tel aviv: Israeli opposition leader Yair Lapid has raised concerns over Trkiye's attempts to acquire Eurofighter Typhoon fighter jets from the UK and Germany, asserting that such a move might enable Trkiye to match Israel's airspace capabilities.

According to Anadolu Agency, Lapid criticized the current Israeli government, led by Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, for not taking action to prevent the deal. Lapid, who heads the Yesh Atid party, argued that a proactive foreign ministry or government should have already intervened to block the transaction.

Lapid emphasized the potential threat posed by Trkiye's acquisition of the advanced jets, stating that Trkiye already possesses the largest and most powerful naval fleet in the Middle East. The opposition leader expressed concerns that Trkiye's efforts to reach airspace parity with Israel could be dangerous and criticized the government's inaction in addressing the issue.

Meanwhile, Ankara continues its discussions with the UK and Germany regarding the Eurofighter jets, with negotiations reportedly progressing positively.
