South Korea’s New Unification Minister Aims to Reestablish Communication with North Korea

Seoul: South Korea's new Unification Minister Chung Dong-young has announced a target to restore communication channels with North Korea. Chung emphasized the importance of resuming dialogue between the two Koreas as a crucial task to be pursued immediately.

According to Anadolu Agency, Chung highlighted the urgent need to reconnect with North Korea, stating that the six-year suspension of talks has been excessively long. He expressed concern over the deterioration of inter-Korean relations over the past three years, which he described as the worst period marked by animosity and confrontation from both sides.

In his inauguration speech, Chung prioritized the restoration of communication and the recovery of the ministry's manpower. He also pointed to the prior suspension of mutual propaganda broadcasts as a positive step towards rebuilding trust between Seoul and Pyongyang.

This marks Chung's second tenure as unification minister, and he is committed to addressing the challenges facing inter-Korean relations with urgency and focus.
