Istanbul: Trkiye's defense industry exports are projected to exceed $8 billion in 2025, as announced by the Turkish trade minister, Omer Bolat, on Friday. Speaking at the International Defense Industry Fair (IDEF) 2025 in Istanbul, Bolat highlighted the event's status as a global brand.

According to Anadolu Agency, the 17th edition of the six-day defense fair IDEF commenced on Tuesday, taking place simultaneously at the Istanbul Fair Center, Ataturk Airport, Wow Hotel, and Atakoy Marina. Organized by KFA Fairs with support from Trkiye's Defense Industries Secretariat (SSB) and the Turkish Armed Forces Foundation, the fair has Anadolu as its global communication partner.

Bolat emphasized IDEF's prestige and significant role in showcasing Trkiye's industry, technological advancements, and global impact on the defense sector. He noted that Trkiye's defense goods were valued at $7.15 billion in 2024, confidently predicting that exports will surpass $8 billion this year, significantly contributing to Trkiye's export success.

He further added that the country has already achieved over $3.5 billion in sales during the first half of the year, with sales expected to accelerate in the latter part of the year.

Bolat underscored the defense industry's contribution to the economy, stating that it adds significant value through its established ecosystem. The industry currently employs over 90,000 people and provides nearly 100,000 jobs, with an annual production figure of $20 billion. Trkiye's defense industry exports to over a hundred countries worldwide and is recognized as one of the strongest in the Eurasian region.

He remarked that Turkish defense products are utilized by countries across Africa, Asia, the Middle East, Europe, and even South America, illustrating the industry's expansive global reach.
