Nablus: A Palestinian teenager died on Friday from wounds inflicted by Israeli gunfire during a military raid on a refugee camp in the northern West Bank city of Nablus earlier this week.

According to Anadolu Agency, the official Palestinian news agency, the 14-year-old, Mohammed Khaled Hassan Mabrouk, succumbed to critical injuries to his thigh sustained during an Israeli army raid on Al-Ain refugee camp west of Nablus on Wednesday.

Wafa reported, citing medical sources, that the Israeli army stormed Nablus and the Al-Ain camp that day, detaining at least one Palestinian and wounding several others. In a separate incident early Friday, dozens of illegal Israeli settlers entered the eastern part of Nablus to perform religious rituals at the site known as Joseph's Tomb before being removed by Palestinian security forces.

Eyewitnesses told Anadolu that a bus and another vehicle transported illegal settlers to Joseph's Tomb without any escort from the Israeli army. Palestinian security forces stopped the illegal settlers at the tomb and prevented them from entering the site before handing them over to the Israeli side. Footage circulating on social media showed illegal settlers gathered at the tomb, which is located in Area A, under full Palestinian control.

Jews believe the site to be the burial place of the prophet Joseph, founder of the Israelite tribe of the same name. However, many archaeologists dispute the claim, stating it is the grave of a local Muslim cleric named Yusuf Dweikat. Illegal settlers typically enter the area under heavy Israeli military protection, often sparking clashes with local Palestinians.

The Israeli army also carried out multiple overnight raids across the occupied West Bank early Friday, arresting several Palestinians, according to local sources. Since the start of Israel's conflict with the Gaza Strip in October 2023, at least 1,006 Palestinians have been killed and more than 7,000 injured in the West Bank by Israeli forces and illegal settlers, according to the Palestinian Health Ministry.

In a landmark opinion last July, the International Court of Justice declared Israel's occupation of Palestinian territory illegal. It demanded the evacuation of all settlements in the West Bank and East Jerusalem.
