Istanbul: Turkish defense firm Bogazici Defense Technologies is drawing attention at the International Defense Industry Fair (IDEF) 2025 with its cutting-edge drone detection and neutralization system, Ilter. The 17th edition of the six-day defense fair IDEF, which started on Tuesday, is being held simultaneously at the Istanbul Fair Center, Ataturk Airport, Wow Hotel, and Atakoy Marina.
According to Anadolu Agency, the firm has been developing anti-drone technologies since 2018, keeping pace with rapid advancements in drone warfare. General Manager Cevdet Kaplan of Bogazici Defense Technologies explained the impact of technological advancements on the drone world in recent years, noting that the types of weapons and techniques in the field of operations have evolved. Kaplan emphasized the importance of reliable anti-drone systems in facing the challenges of fifth-generation warfare, which is moving towards robotic warfare.
Kaplan highlighted the introduction of the Ilter J350 at IDEF 2025 and mentioned that the more advanced J400 system will enter production later this year. He pointed out the need for good situational awareness and detection systems, describing how the firm's radar can detect drones up to 30 kilometers away. The system also includes RF detection systems with both classic and protocol-based detection capabilities, providing comprehensive information about incoming drones and their remote controls.
Ilter's capabilities extend to locating the drone's operator, which is crucial for modern warfare. Once detected, the system allows users to activate the jamming system to neutralize the drone. Kaplan also emphasized the system's ability to jam and spoof a wide bandwidth, from 400 MHz to 8000 MHz, by acting as a fake satellite and redirecting drones to unintended locations.
Kaplan noted the widespread use of their products by the Turkish Armed Forces, the Ministry of Interior, and other security forces, with their systems also being exported to several African countries and Azerbaijan. The effectiveness of their products was demonstrated during the Karabakh War, yielding positive results.
He shared that delegations from various countries visited their stand at IDEF 2025 to explore protective solutions, highlighting the interest in proven systems tested in real operational environments. Kaplan expressed confidence in their systems, given that nearly 1,000 units have been tested in various operational settings, and improvements are continually made based on feedback. The rapid evolution of drone technology necessitates that anti-drone systems develop at a similar pace, with Bogazici Defense Technologies releasing new products almost annually.
