Suva: A 6.6 magnitude earthquake struck south of the Fiji Islands at 1753GMT on Tuesday, as reported by the US Geological Survey. The seismic event occurred at a significant depth of 575 kilometers (357 miles), with the epicenter located at coordinates 23.34 degrees south latitude and 178.88 degrees east longitude.

According to Anadolu Agency, this earthquake followed a 5.8 magnitude quake that occurred just minutes earlier at 1746GMT, also south of the Fiji Islands. This earlier tremor was recorded at a depth of 584.6 kilometers (nearly 230 miles).

Despite the magnitude of the earthquakes, no tsunami warnings have been issued, and there are no reports of casualties or structural damage at this time. The deep-seated nature of these earthquakes typically reduces the potential for surface-level impact.
