Awaza: The third UN Conference on Landlocked Developing Countries (LLDC) has commenced in the Awaza National Tourist Zone, Turkmenistan. This significant event, themed "Driving Progress Through Partnerships," marks the first LLDC conference since the 2014 meeting in Vienna, Austria, and will run until August 8.

According to Anadolu Agency, UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres announced the official opening of the conference, which is chaired by Turkmen President Serdar Berdimuhamedov. President Berdimuhamedov outlined the objectives and content of the meeting, detailing Turkmenistan's policies, actions, and proposals for international cooperation.

The conference features a range of discussions, including parliamentary, youth, civil society, and high-level roundtable sessions. It is expected to draw leaders, officials, and experts from various sectors. Trkiye's representation at the conference is led by Transport and Infrastructure Minister Abdulkadir Uraloglu.

The UN highlights that LLDCs face significant challenges in trade, connectivity, and development due to their lack of direct sea access. This geographical limitation makes these countries dependent on transit nations, leading to increased trade costs and delays. The event aims to explore partnerships that could unlock the potential of these countries.

Currently, the UN classifies 32 nations as landlocked developing countries, with a combined population of approximately 600 million.
