London: UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer on Friday urged Israel to 'reconsider immediately' its decision to intensify military operations in Gaza, warning the move will 'only bring more bloodshed' without ending the conflict or securing the release of hostages.

According to Anadolu Agency, Starmer expressed his concerns through a statement from Downing Street, emphasizing that the Israeli government's decision to further escalate its offensive in Gaza is misguided. He reiterated that such actions will not contribute to resolving the conflict or aiding in the release of hostages, but instead will exacerbate the situation.

Starmer highlighted the worsening humanitarian crisis in Gaza and the dire conditions in which hostages taken by Hamas are being held. He called for a ceasefire, increased humanitarian aid, and the release of all hostages by Hamas, urging a move towards a negotiated solution. He stressed that Hamas should not have a role in Gaza's future and must disarm.

The Prime Minister also mentioned that the UK, in collaboration with its allies, is working towards a long-term peace plan as part of a two-state solution to foster a better future for both Palestinians and Israelis. However, he warned that without earnest participation from both parties, the opportunity for such a resolution is diminishing.

Starmer concluded by asserting that a diplomatic solution remains feasible, but it necessitates both sides stepping back from destructive paths.
