Gaza city: The Palestinian presidency announced plans to urgently bring Israel's decision to occupy the Gaza Strip before the UN Security Council, the Arab League, and the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC), describing the action as 'a full-fledged war crime.'
According to Anadolu Agency, the presidency labeled the Israeli plan as part of a broader policy involving 'genocide, systematic killings, starvation, and siege.' The actions are described as a 'flagrant violation of international humanitarian law and UN resolutions.' In response, the Palestinian leadership is taking swift diplomatic measures by appealing to international bodies to convene emergency meetings and formulate a unified response.
The presidency has also reached out to the international community, especially urging US President Donald Trump to 'intervene and prevent the implementation of Israel's decisions.' The Palestinian Foreign Ministry criticized Israel's decision to occupy Gaza, terming it an 'unjustified campaign against Palestinian civilians.' The ministry condemned the Israeli Security Cabinet's newly approved plan as a 'dangerous and illegal escalation.'
The ministry further stated that Israel's actions reveal a war of extermination and forced displacement against the people of Gaza, posing a threat of 'certain death' for civilians remaining in the area. It emphasized the need for the international community to 'assume their legal, political, and moral responsibilities' to stop Israel's actions.
This development follows the Israeli Security Cabinet's approval of Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu's proposal for military control over Gaza City. The ongoing military campaign has resulted in over 61,200 deaths since October 2023 and has left the enclave devastated and on the brink of famine.
In recent history, the International Criminal Court has issued arrest warrants for Netanyahu and former Defense Minister Yoav Gallant for war crimes and crimes against humanity in Gaza. Additionally, Israel is facing a genocide case at the International Court of Justice for its actions in the enclave.
