Moscow: Russian President Vladimir Putin and Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi engaged in a phone call to discuss the ongoing Ukraine war, as stated in a release from New Delhi.

According to Anadolu Agency, the conversation between the two leaders occurred in the context of recent actions by US President Donald Trump, who increased tariffs on Indian imports to 50%, citing the country's gains from purchasing Russian oil. During the call, Putin updated Modi on the latest developments concerning the Ukraine conflict, as mentioned in the statement from the Indian prime minister's office.

Modi reiterated India's stance on seeking a peaceful resolution to the conflict. Additionally, both leaders evaluated the progress in their bilateral relations and confirmed their commitment to enhancing the special and privileged strategic partnership between India and Russia. Modi also invited Putin to attend the 23rd annual India-Russia summit, which India will host later this year.

A separate statement from the Kremlin highlighted that Putin informed Modi about the outcomes of his recent discussions with US envoy Steve Witkoff in Moscow. Modi expressed appreciation for this information and restated India's support for a political-diplomatic solution to the Ukraine situation. The discussions also covered significant issues such as trade, economic, and investment cooperation between the two nations.
