Dhaka: The number of deaths from the mosquito-borne dengue disease in Bangladesh this year rose to 101, with three new fatalities in the past hours, according to the health office on Sunday. The Directorate General of Health Services reported that two people died of dengue in the capital Dhaka's South City Corporation and one in the southeastern Chittagong Division.

According to Anadolu Agency, out of the total deaths, 45 occurred in the Dhaka South City Corporation, 11 in Dhaka North City Corporation, and 17 in the Chittagong Division. Meanwhile, 448 new dengue patients were admitted to hospitals in the last 24 hours, bringing the total number of cases to 24,183 this year.

The report indicates that 22,708 patients have been released from hospitals. Of the total cases, 39.3% are female, the health services mentioned. The Barisal Division recorded the highest number of dengue admissions in the past hours, with 95 new patients. Additionally, 84 new cases were registered in the Dhaka Division and 81 in the Chittagong Division during the same period.

In 2023, Bangladesh reported a record 1,705 deaths due to dengue and a total of 321,179 cases, as per official data.
