Israel to Deport Swedish Activist Greta Thunberg to Greece on Monday

Tel aviv: Swedish activist Greta Thunberg will be deported to Greece on Monday after being detained aboard the Global Sumud Flotilla, which was sailing toward the Gaza Strip to break Israel's blockade, the Israeli channel i24News reported Sunday. Thunberg is set to arrive in Greece alongside Greek nationals who were also detained by Israel after participating in the flotilla. A total of 165 activists will be deported on the flight.

According to Anadolu Agency, Thunberg was among the more than 400 activists, parliamentarians, and lawyers detained after Israeli forces intercepted the Gaza-bound aid flotilla on Wednesday. Some detainees have been deported, while others are still undergoing legal proceedings.

The Guardian has reported through correspondence that Thunberg informed Swedish officials of her detention conditions, including being held in a cell infested with bedbugs and receiving insufficient food and water. Additionally, the British newspaper cited another detainee who claimed that Israeli forces forced Thunberg to hold flags for photographs.

Further corroborating Thunberg's claims of mistreatment, Turkish activist Ersin Celik told Anadolu that Israeli forces subjected Thunberg to severe treatment, making her crawl and kiss the Israeli flag.
