Gabala: Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan emphasized that lasting peace and long-term stability can only be achieved through strengthening constant coordination and partnership among the member states of the Organization of Turkic States (OTS). Fidan made these remarks during the OTS Council of Foreign Ministers meeting held in Gabala, Azerbaijan, prior to the organization's 12th summit.
According to Anadolu Agency, Fidan highlighted the importance of the Turkic world becoming a key player in shaping regional balances, attributing the OTS's greatest strength to the growing trust and cooperation among its members. He underscored the need for the Turkic world to convene more frequently to address regional and global challenges, determine its stance, and coordinate joint actions swiftly.
The main theme of Tuesday's summit, 'Regional Peace and Security,' was noted by Fidan as the top priority for the future of their shared geography. He reiterated that permanent peace and long-term stability hinge on the continuous strengthening of coordination and partnership among member states, advocating for unity in geopolitical matters, enhanced cooperation on international platforms, and a unified voice on critical global issues.
Fidan also highlighted the significance of the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC) becoming an OTS observer state in 2022, stating that it bolsters the unity of the Turkic world. He stressed the importance of lifting the unjust isolation of the Turkish Cypriot people and recognizing their rights as a shared responsibility.
Addressing the situation in the South Caucasus, Fidan acknowledged the progress made towards lasting peace, which is crucial for regional stability. He expressed Trkiye's support for the joint declaration signed by Azerbaijan and Armenia in Washington, DC, and discussed the potential benefits of new transportation and communication lines in the region, which could help revive the historic Silk Road route.
Fidan also called attention to the ongoing crisis in Gaza, describing it as a tragedy that wounds humanity's conscience. He stressed the urgent need for a lasting ceasefire, unhindered humanitarian aid access, and the implementation of a two-state solution. Additionally, he affirmed Trkiye's support for Syria's territorial integrity and unity, emphasizing the need for an inclusive political process to ensure stability.
The Organization of Turkic States, founded in 2009, comprises Trkiye, Azerbaijan, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, and Uzbekistan, with the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus, Hungary, and Turkmenistan as observer states. Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan was among the leaders attending the OTS summit.
