Pro-Israel Journalist Bari Weiss Named CBS News Editor-in-Chief

New york: Bari Weiss, a pro-Israel journalist and founder of The Free Press, has been appointed as the editor-in-chief of CBS News. This announcement follows Paramount's acquisition of her independent media outlet, marking a significant shift in the network's editorial leadership.

According to Anadolu Agency, Paramount, a division of Skydance Corporation, stated that the acquisition aims to combine CBS News' extensive reach with The Free Press' influential voice, setting a new standard for journalism in the United States. Weiss, who launched The Free Press in 2021, has been known for her critique of legacy media and her stance on issues like diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) programs and COVID policies. Her outlet is recognized for its strong pro-Israel position and conservative leanings.

Weiss expressed her vision for the partnership, emphasizing the opportunity to bring fearless, independent journalism to a broader audience. She highlighted the commitment to honoring CBS News' legacy by striving to build the most trusted news organization of the 21st century. In her new role, Weiss will oversee editorial priorities and lead innovation in content delivery, working closely with CBS News President Tom Cibrowski and reporting directly to Paramount CEO David Ellison.

Ellison, who finalized an $8 billion merger with Paramount Global earlier this year, now controls the media conglomerate that owns CBS News. His ties to Israel are notable, given his family's financial contributions to the Israel army and connections with Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.

The appointment of Weiss has reportedly stirred concern among CBS News staff, who are wary of potential changes to its long-standing journalistic style. This apprehension comes on the heels of Paramount's recent $16 million settlement with U.S. President Donald Trump over a legal dispute involving an edited interview with Kamala Harris. Legal analysts suggested the settlement was a strategic move to appease Trump, who has been critical of U.S. media outlets.
