Ankara: Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan on Wednesday reaffirmed Trkiye's commitment to the establishment of a Palestinian state, stating it will "definitely" be established based on the 1967 borders, with East Jerusalem as its capital. Speaking at the Justice and Development (AK) Party group meeting, Erdogan emphasized the necessity of a two-state solution for lasting peace in the region.

According to Anadolu Agency, Erdogan highlighted that peace cannot be achieved by placing the entire burden on the Palestinians or Hamas. He insisted that "peace is not a one-winged bird" and criticized the ongoing Israeli military actions in Gaza, urging for an immediate cessation. Erdogan referenced the calls from former US President Trump for peace, emphasizing that Israel's actions undermine efforts towards a positive atmosphere.

Erdogan strongly condemned the Israeli government's actions, accusing them of surpassing the atrocities committed by Hitler. He mentioned the use of starvation as a weapon and the destruction wrought on Gaza, asserting that Israel's actions have not succeeded in breaking the spirit of the Gazan people. He reiterated Trkiye's multi-faceted approach, which includes humanitarian aid, diplomatic efforts, trade measures, and the recognition of a Palestinian state.

The Turkish president also underscored the importance of ongoing talks in Sharm El-Sheikh, expressing hope for positive outcomes. He assured unwavering support for the Palestinian people during the peace process and commended Hamas for its positive response to US peace initiatives. Erdogan affirmed Trkiye's backing of the US-led peace efforts in the region, viewing a ceasefire and just peace as the most rational choice for all involved parties.
