Limpopo: At least 42 people were killed when a bus crashed in South Africa's northern Limpopo province, according to local media on Monday. The incident has left the region in mourning as the details of the crash continue to emerge.

According to Anadolu Agency, the fatalities include 18 women, 17 men, and seven children, as reported by the local broadcaster SABC citing the Transport Ministry. The tragic event has also resulted in more than 30 passengers being hospitalized after the bus, which was carrying nationals of Malawi and Zimbabwe, lost control. The vehicle rolled down an embankment and landed on its roof on Sunday.

Rescue efforts were underway early Monday as authorities suspected that some passengers might still be trapped inside the vehicle. In addition to the rescue operations, the road where the crash occurred remained closed as officials continued to assess the situation and ensure the safety of all involved.
