Islamabad: Trkiye's parliament speaker on Monday said "our greatest wish" is an end to the bloodshed in Gaza and the establishment of a lasting ceasefire. Speaking at a trilateral meeting of the speakers of the parliaments of Trkiye, Pakistan, and Azerbaijan in the Pakistani capital, Islamabad, Numan Kurtulmus expressed hope for an unhindered access to humanitarian aid for the Gazans and its reconstruction to heal the wounds of the Palestinians.

According to Anadolu Agency, Kurtulmus noted that recent developments are promising. However, he emphasized that Israel's actions over the past two years necessitate careful and close monitoring. He urged all three countries and the international community to continue contributing to establishing peace and stability in the region.

Kurtulmus expressed concern that Israeli Prime Minister Netanyahu and his government might return to previous practices and actions after agreements are signed. Therefore, he called on the international community to maintain pressure to ensure lasting peace.

The Parliamentary Group in Solidarity, established in April, will work to support this peace process at the parliamentary level, Kurtulmus mentioned. The meeting concluded with Kurtulmus and his counterparts, Sardar Ayaz Sadiq from Pakistan and Sahiba Gafarova from Azerbaijan, signing the Islamabad Declaration.

During the meetings, parliamentarians discussed issues such as defense and security, sustainable development, climate change, and disaster resilience. Kurtulmus also thanked Azerbaijan and Pakistan for their support to the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC).

Kurtulmus expressed hope for increased cooperation with the TRNC and its parliament. He reiterated that the meeting demonstrated the unity of Pakistan, Azerbaijan, and Trkiye as "one nation, three different states."
