UK Unemployment Rises to 4.8% Amid Economic Challenges

London: The unemployment rate in the UK reached 4.8% during the June-August period, as announced by the Office for National Statistics (ONS) on Tuesday. This marks an increase from the 4.7% recorded in the May-to-June period and a significant rise from the 4.1% reported in the same quarter last year.

According to Anadolu Agency, approximately 1.7 million individuals were unemployed in the UK by the end of August. The economic inactivity rate was estimated at 21% for the June to August timeframe, as reported by the ONS.

In addition, estimates for payrolled employees in the UK demonstrated a decline of 93,000, or 0.3%, on a year-on-year basis in August. However, there was a slight increase of 10,000 in the number of payrolled employees compared to the previous month.
