Istanbul: Istanbul Forest Innovation Week (IFIW) 2025, scheduled from October 20 to 25, will convene forestry experts from across the globe, creating a platform to influence the future of global forestry. The event is organized by the Turkish Agriculture and Forestry Ministry's General Directorate of Forestry and will be hosted at the Pullman Istanbul Hotel and Convention Center.
According to Anadolu Agency, the week-long event will feature panels, side events, exhibitions, and field trips aimed at advancing the forestry sector through innovation. Anadolu has been designated as the global communication partner for IFIW 2025. General Director of Forestry Bekir Karacabey announced that invitations have been sent to 193 countries, with 75 confirming their participation. Additionally, 30 international organizations have responded, and 336 expert scientists, practitioners, firefighting experts, and officials are expected to attend.
Karacabey highlighted the importance of sharing Turkey's forestry expertise and success in combating forest fires, emphasizing the significance of international collaboration under the UN's guidance. He noted that the UN Forest Forum had requested that forest fires be addressed as a special topic, leading to Turkey taking a leadership initiative in this area.
The event will focus on innovative technologies related to forests and forest fires, with discussions on techniques and technologies used to combat these fires. Karacabey stressed the importance of sharing experiences and resources globally, as forest fires are a shared international concern. Antalya's International Forestry Training Center has provided training to over 250 experts from 22 countries, forming the foundation for IFIW 2025.
A declaration, dubbed the 'Istanbul Declaration,' will be prepared based on panel discussions and presentations. This document will be submitted to the UN Forest Forum and disseminated to all UN member countries. Karacabey concluded by highlighting Turkey's success in increasing its forest resources, a feat recognized by the UN and neighboring regions. He expressed Turkey's commitment to enhancing its forestry experience by integrating new technologies and learning from global partners to benefit both national and global forestry.
