Ankara: Russia is actively working to reopen several airports that have been closed due to security concerns. The reopening of these airports will be contingent upon the prevailing safety conditions, as stated by Transport Minister Andrei Nikitin on Tuesday.

According to Anadolu Agency, Minister Nikitin expressed optimism about the situation, saying, "We're working on it. I hope there will be positive news soon, but it depends on safety," when queried about the timeline for reopening the airports.

Currently, the Transport Ministry has confirmed that flight operations continue to be suspended at airports in Anapa, Belgorod, Bryansk, Voronezh, Kursk, Lipetsk, Rostov-on-Don, and Simferopol. However, services have resumed at the airports in Elista, Gelendzhik, and Krasnodar.

Previously, some regional media outlets reported that Rostov-on-Don's Platov Airport would reopen on October 26. However, the Federal Air Transport Agency (Rosaviatsiya) has refuted these reports, stating that the airport remains closed due to security reasons.

The closures of these airports were initially implemented in response to security risks associated with ongoing military operations in neighboring Ukraine.
