Caracas: Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro has ordered an increase in security measures to the maximum level in four western states as part of the 'Operation Independence 200' exercise. This directive applies to the states of Merida, Trujillo, Lara, and Yaracuy, with the aim of ensuring the country's 'integral defense' in response to military activities by the United States in the Caribbean Sea. President Maduro emphasized the importance of achieving optimal conditions for the defense of Venezuela, highlighting the unity of the people and various sectors in efforts to secure peace and protect sovereignty.

According to Anadolu Agency, Venezuelan media reports indicate that national defense extends beyond official forces to include citizens. The government has stated that 6.2 million individuals are registered with the Bolivarian Militia Force, which will play a role in the country's defense system. Interior, Justice, and Peace Minister Diosdado Cabello announced that 11 states are currently operating under maximum security levels, with plans to extend this measure to the capital Caracas and Miranda state soon.

US President Donald Trump confirmed earlier this week that he has authorized the CIA to conduct operations in Venezuela under an anti-narcotics directive. The United States has deployed naval forces near Venezuela, citing operations against drug cartels. However, the Venezuelan government has accused the US of attempting to instigate regime change under the guise of 'counter-narcotics' efforts.
