Paris: "Priceless" jewelry was stolen from Paris' iconic Louvre museum in what has been described as a "major robbery," the French interior minister announced on Sunday. The robbery occurred during the day, prompting the museum to close its doors earlier than usual.

According to Anadolu Agency, the French Culture Minister, Rachida Dati, communicated through the US social media company X that there were no injuries reported in the incident. She stated that she was on site with museum teams and the police, and that an investigation into the theft is currently underway. The Louvre also posted on X that it would remain closed on Sunday "for exceptional reasons."

French Interior Minister Laurent Nunez characterized the incident as a "major robbery" and explained that the suspects gained access to the museum using a basket lift mounted on a truck platform. Nunez emphasized the significance of the stolen items, stating, "These are jewels that have genuine heritage value and are, in fact, priceless," during an interview with France Inter radio, as reported by the broadcaster BFMTV.
