El-fasher: At least 1,510 people fled the city of El-Fasher in western Sudan over a five-day period due to escalating violence and deteriorating security conditions.

According to Anadolu Agency, the International Organization for Migration (IOM) reported that the displacement occurred between October 15 and 19 as clashes between the Sudanese army and the paramilitary Rapid Support Forces (RSF) continued in and around the city.

The UN agency highlighted that the displaced have scattered across various sites in El-Fasher and Tawila in North Darfur, noting that the situation remains tense and volatile. There are growing fears of a worsening humanitarian crisis as a result of the ongoing conflict.

Earlier, the Sudanese army issued a statement claiming its forces had repelled an RSF attack on El-Fasher from three directions, inflicting significant losses in lives and equipment. The General Coordination for Displaced Persons and Refugees in Darfur, a local civil group, reported that hundreds of families fleeing El-Fasher had arrived in Tawila under challenging humanitarian conditions.

The group has called on international humanitarian organizations to urgently provide aid and assistance to the displaced, who are lacking basic necessities. The conflict, which began in April 2023, has resulted in over 20,000 deaths and displaced 14 million people, according to the UN and local authorities. However, research from US universities estimates the death toll to be around 130,000.
