Ulaanbaatar: Mongolian President Ukhnaagiin Khurelsukh on Monday vetoed a resolution adopted by parliament last week that dismissed Prime Minister Gombojavyn Zandanshatar after just four months in office. A statement by the country's presidency confirmed that the president vetoed the resolution adopted by the State Great Khural, Mongolia's unicameral parliament, 'in its entirety.'

According to Anadolu Agency, the text of the president's veto indicated that the parliamentary vote regarding the prime minister's dismissal violated the constitution and contradicted an earlier committee decision within parliament which decided not to dismiss him. The veto text also highlighted procedural law and constitutional violations when parliament allowed the vote despite a quorum not being met the day before.

On Friday, the Mongolian parliament adopted a resolution to dismiss the prime minister at a plenary session, citing several reasons, including his appointment of a new justice minister without prior consultation with the State Great Khural. Additionally, Parliamentary Speaker Dashzegviin Amarbayasgalan resigned from his position on the same day.

Zandanshatar took over from his predecessor, Luvsannamsrain Oyun-Erdene, in June, after Oyun-Erdene resigned following a lost vote of confidence in parliament. The vote of confidence came amid protests that erupted in mid-May over reports of lavish spending by Oyun-Erdene's son.
