Washington: The administration of President Donald Trump is reportedly growing worried that Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu could jeopardize the Gaza ceasefire deal with Hamas, US media sources reported on Tuesday.

According to Anadolu Agency, The New York Times cited anonymous White House officials who revealed that Vice President JD Vance's visit to Israel is aimed at applying pressure on Netanyahu to adhere to the Gaza ceasefire agreement. Vance's visit is seen as an effort to reinforce the administration's commitment to maintaining the deal.

US Middle East Envoy Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner, President Donald Trump's son-in-law, arrived in Israel on Monday to hold discussions with Netanyahu and other officials regarding the implementation of the ceasefire. A senior US official conveyed to the US daily that both Witkoff and Kushner are concerned that the agreement is at risk of collapsing.

The primary goal of the envoys in Israel is to prevent Netanyahu from launching a comprehensive assault against Hamas, according to the sources. The New York Times reported that the discussions between Witkoff and Kushner in Israel concentrated on unresolved issues from the initial agreement, such as forming a stabilization force and disarming Hamas.

Israel conducted a series of deadly airstrikes across the Gaza Strip on Sunday, resulting in the deaths of at least 44 Palestinians. This action followed allegations that Hamas had attacked Israeli troops in Rafah, a claim that Hamas denied, reiterating its commitment to the ceasefire.

Despite the Israeli airstrikes, President Trump has stated that the Gaza ceasefire remains effective. The ceasefire, which began on October 10, is based on a phased plan proposed by Trump. The initial phase involved the exchange of Israeli hostages for Palestinian prisoners.

The plan also includes the reconstruction of Gaza and the establishment of a new governing mechanism that excludes Hamas.
