Tel aviv: A senior American official has issued a stark warning to Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu regarding the fragile ceasefire deal between Israel and Hamas. According to Israel's Channel 12, the official cautioned that if Netanyahu allows the agreement to falter, he will face serious repercussions from U.S. President Donald Trump.

According to Anadolu Agency, Axios correspondent Barak Ravid reported in Hebrew on Channel 12 that the U.S. official emphasized Netanyahu is "walking a very thin tightrope with President Trump. If he keeps this up, he'll end up screwing up the deal, and if he screws up the deal, Donald Trump will screw him."

The warning was further underscored by U.S. Vice President JD Vance, who recently concluded a diplomatic visit to Israel. Vance expressed surprise upon learning about the Israeli parliament's preliminary approval of two non-binding bills concerning the annexation of parts of the occupied West Bank. Speaking at Tel Aviv's Ben Gurion Airport, Vance criticized the vote, remarking, "If this was a political stunt, it's a very foolish one. I personally take offence to it."

An Israeli official mentioned to Channel 12 that Netanyahu had been alerted days earlier about the potential backlash from the vote but did not act to prevent it. The Israeli parliament's approval in a preliminary reading requires three additional readings to become law.

This development occurred despite opposition from President Trump, who declared last month that he would not permit Israel to annex the West Bank. The vote coincided with Vance's visit, part of a U.S. diplomatic effort to uphold the Gaza ceasefire, which took effect on October 10.
