Beirut: The Lebanese army is expanding its deployment on the southern border on a daily basis, President Joseph Aoun announced during a recent meeting at the Baabda Palace in Beirut. The meeting was held with US General Joseph Clearfield, the newly appointed head of a committee overseeing the ceasefire with Israel.

According to Anadolu Agency, President Aoun stated that the Lebanese Armed Forces are diligently performing their duties south of the Litani River and are increasing their deployment every day. He emphasized the necessity for a complete Israeli withdrawal from the southern border to fulfill the requirements of the ceasefire agreement.

President Aoun highlighted the progress made in clearing areas of armed presence, weapons, and ammunition, which have come under the army's control. He reiterated Lebanon's commitment to the security measures implemented by the army command to ensure stability in the region.

The November 2024 ceasefire agreement outlined that Israel was to fully withdraw from southern Lebanon by January 2025. However, Israel has only partially withdrawn its troops and still maintains a military presence at five outposts along the border.
