China Targets Self-Reliance and Tech Growth in Upcoming Five-Year Plan

Ankara: China has set its target to 'foster' emerging industries, science, and technology, as well as 'greater self-reliance' for its upcoming five-year plan, a communique at the end of the fourth plenum of the 20th Central Committee of the Communist Party of China said on Thursday.

According to Anadolu Agency, the communique has laid out Beijing's targets for its 15th Five-Year Plan, covering the period between 2026 and 2030. The recommendations made by the fourth plenum will be presented to the National People's Congress, China's parliament, scheduled to convene in March.

The communique emphasized the need for greater self-reliance and strength in science and technology, aiming to steer the development of new quality productive forces. It acknowledged rising uncertainties and unforeseen factors, urging people to maintain strategic resolve and confidence in success.

The communique highlighted the importance of identifying, responding to, and steering changes, while demonstrating the courage and competence to continue the nation's efforts. It called for seizing the historic opportunity presented by the new round of technological revolution and industrial transformation to enhance China's capabilities in education, science and technology, and human resources in a coordinated manner.
