Ankara: Trkiye's ruling Justice and Development (AK) Party on Sunday expressed approval of the recent announcement by the PKK regarding its withdrawal from Turkish territory and initiation of disarmament measures, considering it a 'concrete result' of the nation's roadmap toward a "terror-free Trkiye."
According to Anadolu Agency, the AK Party spokesperson Omer Celik communicated via Turkish social media platform NSosyal that the withdrawal of the PKK's armed elements from Trkiye and the commencement of disarmament efforts align with the primary objective. The PKK had earlier revealed that its armed units within Trkiye are in the process of relocating to northern Iraq.
Celik highlighted that the dissolution of the PKK's presence inside Trkiye and the continuation of disarmament efforts in the broader region, including Iraq and Syria, remain the central focus of the "terror-free Trkiye" process. He noted that the roadmap is yielding positive outcomes.
He stressed the necessity of maintaining consistent progress in the disarmament and organizational dissolution of the PKK, underlining the role of the inter-party parliamentary commission in shaping the forthcoming stages of the initiative.
The spokesperson described the "terror-free Trkiye" initiative as a strategic and historical move to protect the nation's democracy. He mentioned that the goal of a 'terror-free region' is a response to the influence exerted by terrorist organizations under imperialist guidance, particularly in neighboring regions.
Celik warned against potential provocations and acts of sabotage, asserting that Ankara is aware of the political, intelligence, and operational challenges in this process. He noted the significance of diverse political participation in strengthening the initiative, portraying it as a form of political richness for Trkiye.
Celik also emphasized the importance of public support, stating that the unity and historical connection of the nation will steer the roadmap forward. He affirmed that under the leadership of the president, all state institutions are steadfastly working toward achieving a "terror-free Trkiye."
The PKK, recognized as a terrorist organization by Trkiye, the US, and the EU, convened a congress in May where it announced its dissolution. This followed a call in February by the group's leader, Abdullah Ocalan, for an end to their long-standing attacks.
