Trenton: Several New Jersey polling locations were temporarily closed after threats were received early Tuesday in Election Day. The threats that were received by email involved certain places in Bergen, Essex, Mercer, Middlesex, Monmouth, Ocean, and Passaic counties, New Jersey Attorney General Matthew Platkin said in a statement.

According to Anadolu Agency, law enforcement officers responded at each affected polling place and swiftly worked to secure these polling locations to ensure the safety of every voter. Some of the locations have since reopened, while voters at others are being directed to alternate polling places, as noted by Platkin.

Platkin praised law enforcement and election workers for acting quickly and stated that authorities are coordinating with federal and local law enforcement partners. He assured voters that they should continue to have confidence in casting their ballots without fear of intimidation, emphasizing that the state will not tolerate any attempts to interfere with elections.

Zohran Mamdani, a frontrunner mayoral candidate in neighboring New York City, expressed concern over the threats, describing them as 'incredibly concerning.' He characterized the threats as part of broader attacks on democracy, linking them to tactics used by the Trump administration to intimidate voters with unfounded claims of voter fraud.
