Ankara: Trkiye on Friday expressed approval of the United Nations Security Council's decision to remove Syrian President Ahmed Shara and Interior Minister Enes Hattab from its sanctions list.

According to Anadolu Agency, Oncu Keceli, spokesperson for the Turkish Foreign Ministry, released a statement acknowledging the UN Security Council's Resolution No. 2799 (2025). The resolution officially delists Syrian President Ahmed Shara and Interior Minister Enes Hattab from the sanctions, a move that Trkiye sees as a positive step toward improving relations with Syria.

Keceli emphasized Trkiye's commitment to supporting measures aimed at addressing the negative impacts of previous sanctions on Syria. He highlighted the importance of lifting sanctions to facilitate Syria's reintegration into the international community and to promote stability and development within the country.

The UN Security Council's decision came after a draft resolution, proposed by the United States, was adopted on Thursday. The resolution saw 14 members of the council voting in favor, with China abstaining from the vote.
