Belem: Syrian President Ahmad al-Sharaa met on Friday with several world leaders on the sidelines of the COP30 climate summit in Belem, Brazil.

According to Anadolu Agency, Sharaa engaged in discussions with French President Emmanuel Macron, British Prime Minister Keir Starmer, and Dutch Premier Dick Schoof. He also held talks with Spanish Prime Minister Pedro S¡nchez and Finnish President Alexander Stubb.

The meetings included the presence of Foreign Minister Asaad al-Shaibani, while Local Administration and Environment Minister Mohammad Anjarani participated in the meeting with the Dutch prime minister. The specifics of the discussions were not disclosed by the news agency.

Sharaa's participation in the heads of state segment of COP30 is significant, marking the first time a Syrian president has attended a UN climate conference since its inception in 1995.
