Kyiv: Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy stated that he is not afraid of US President Donald Trump, describing their relationship as 'constructive.' Speaking to The Guardian after renewed Russian attacks left much of Ukraine without power, Zelenskyy dismissed claims that his October meeting with Trump in Washington was tense. He remarked that the discussions were 'normal, businesslike, and constructive,' focusing on Ukraine's defense needs and measures to counter Moscow's capabilities.

According to Anadolu Agency, Zelenskyy addressed the perception of Trump's intimidating presence, stating, 'Everyone in the world is afraid of Trump. That's the truth.' However, he clarified that this fear does not extend to him, as Ukraine views the US as a friend and strategic partner. He expressed respect for the democratic choice of Americans and emphasized the longstanding partnership between the two nations.

Zelenskyy also highlighted the role of King Charles in enhancing relations between Kyiv and Washington, mentioning Trump's respect for the British monarch. He acknowledged King Charles's support for Ukraine, noting his influence in diplomatic matters.

The Ukrainian president confirmed Kyiv's intention to order 27 Patriot air defense systems from US defense producers, urging European allies to provide temporary assistance. Zelenskyy remarked on the continuous need for military support, stating, 'It's never enough. It's enough when the war ends.'

The interview took place at the Mariinskyi Palace in Kyiv, where a temporary power outage occurred due to Russian strikes on Ukraine's energy grid. Zelenskyy described the situation as typical, referencing the frequent electricity fluctuations in Kyiv.

He accused Moscow of conducting a 'hybrid war against Europe' and warned of the potential for Russia to open a new front in another European country. Despite the ongoing conflict, he asserted that Russia's offensive in the Donetsk province, including the assault on Pokrovsk, had not yielded success for Moscow, highlighting the heavy losses incurred.

Ukraine has been experiencing power outages following Russian drone and missile attacks on the country's grid, impacting two nuclear plants in western Ukraine. The state energy company Centrenergo reported a drop in output to 'zero' after the attacks.
