Trkiye to Serve as a Bridge in a Polarized Global Economy, Says RTIB Chair

Istanbul: Trkiye should act as a bridge to connect a polarized world and assess potential gains to develop its economy further, the chair of the Russian-Turkish Business People's Association (RTIB) told Anadolu.

According to Anadolu Agency, Erdem Acay, speaking on the sidelines of the Verona Eurasia Economic Forum in Istanbul, highlighted the ambitious $100 billion trade volume target set by the Turkish and Russian presidents. He pointed out that sanctions and restrictions on Russia have increased opportunities for the Turkish business community.

Acay noted that competition is emerging between Russian and Turkish sectors, presenting new challenges and potentials. He emphasized the need for the Turkish business community to focus on joint investments and ventures, fostering mutual trust through partnerships in key areas, both in Russia and beyond.

He urged the Turkish business world to adopt a more entrepreneurial approach, particularly in sectors not affected by sanctions, such as food, textiles, and health. Acay observed that many firms remain hesitant to explore these opportunities, a mindset that needs to change.

Acay also remarked on the shifting global power dynamics, with the US and EU's dominance being counterbalanced by the emergence of BRICS nations, notably China and Russia. He stressed Trkiye's strategic position between these two poles, encouraging the country to capitalize on its potential role as a bridge.

He further emphasized the importance of real production as a foundation for economic growth, suggesting that Trkiye and Russia should concentrate on enhancing their capabilities in this area. Acay concluded that the Turkish and Russian economies complement each other and should strengthen cooperation in technological production and other high-value-added sectors.
