Baghdad: Iraqi Prime Minister Mohammed Shia al-Sudani announced plans to commence discussions for forming a new government as his coalition emerges as the frontrunner in the parliamentary elections. In a televised address, al-Sudani affirmed that his Reconstruction and Development Coalition leads the parliamentary polls and is set to maintain this position.

According to Anadolu Agency, the electoral commission's preliminary results indicated that al-Sudani's coalition secured the most votes in Baghdad, tallying 411,026. Nationwide voter turnout was reported at 56.11%. Al-Sudani expressed intentions to establish a government that will cater to all Iraqis, including those who abstained from voting, stating, "Iraq belongs to all and will remain for all."

Al-Sudani urged all stakeholders to prioritize Iraq's interests and honor the voters' decision. He emphasized that the forthcoming phase will concentrate on unifying negotiations to form a competent government capable of fulfilling its programs and commitments. The premier highlighted his coalition's openness to collaborating with all parties, pledging to act responsibly and legally to reflect the Iraqi people's sacrifices and trust.

Al-Sudani concluded by stating that the objective is to develop solid agreements that uphold the constitution and ensure genuine participation in decision-making for everyone involved.
