London: Syrian Foreign Minister Asaad al-Shaibani on Friday met with British investors to discuss ways to strengthen economic cooperation between the two countries, the Syrian Foreign Ministry said in a statement. The meeting took place in London as part of Shaibani's visit to the UK, which began on Wednesday and has no announced end date.

According to Anadolu Agency, the statement mentioned that Shaibani met with British business leaders and investors to explore potential opportunities for increased economic and investment cooperation. The discussions centered around possible partnership projects aimed at aiding Syria's development endeavors. The ministry quoted Shaibani emphasizing the Syrian government's commitment to fostering an investment-friendly environment that would be mutually beneficial.

During his visit, Shaibani also announced the reopening of Syria's embassy in London, which had been closed for 13 years. This announcement was made public through a post on his US social media company X account. The reopening of the embassy marks a significant step in the new Syrian administration's efforts to end Damascus' international isolation following the policies of the ousted Bashar al-Assad regime and to establish formal channels with major Western states.

The strategic importance of Shaibani's visit is further underscored by President Ahmad al-Sharaa's recent visit to Washington, where he met with US President Donald Trump. This development signals Damascus' intention to enhance its relations with key global powers. The political landscape in Syria has undergone significant changes since Assad, the country's leader for nearly 25 years, fled to Russia last December, leading to the end of the Baath Party regime. A new transitional administration, led by Sharaa, was established in January.
