Rovajarvi: Finland has commenced its artillery firing exercise, Northern Strike 225, in Rovajarvi, eastern Lapland. The Finnish broadcaster Yle reported that the exercise began on Monday and involves a significant assembly of 2,200 soldiers, which includes participants from Poland, and utilizes 500 military equipment units.

According to Anadolu Agency, the exercise, led by Kimmo Ruotsalainen, combines tactical and operational firepower and focuses on the integration of allied capabilities. Ruotsalainen highlighted that this training is the 'most significant' artillery and mortar firing exercise in Northern Finland for conscripts and is scheduled to continue until November 25.

The primary goal of the exercise is to evaluate the Finnish Army's artillery system's operation under challenging early-winter conditions. Rovajarvi, which serves as the main artillery practice range for the Finnish Army, holds the distinction of being the largest training area in Western Europe. This site is strategically located approximately 100 kilometers from the Russian border.

Finland's recent shift in military strategy, marked by its accession to NATO in April 2023, was a response to the Russia-Ukraine conflict. Since joining the alliance, Helsinki has been proactive in reinforcing its eastern border and enhancing its cybersecurity and counterintelligence capabilities.
