Jerusalem: New York's outgoing mayor, Eric Adams, expressed his support for Israeli Jews during his visit to Israel, stating that he 'served' them as the mayor of New York City. Adams made the remarks on Sunday while in occupied East Jerusalem, emphasizing his connection to the region and its people.

According to Anadolu Agency, Adams departed New York on Saturday for a multi-day trip to Israel. His itinerary included meetings with government officials and visits to religious sites. During his address, Adams emphasized the importance of his relationship with the Jewish community, saying, "I wanted to come back here to Israel and let you know that I served you as the mayor." He further added, "But I want to continue to have the title that's more important to me than anything: I'm your brother."

Adams also met with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu in Kirya, Tel Aviv. During their meeting, Netanyahu expressed gratitude for Adams' support, reportedly thanking him for his "great support of Israel" and recognizing him as a "true friend of the Jewish people," according to a statement released by the prime minister's office on the social media platform X.

Adams' term as mayor is set to conclude on January 1, following his electoral defeat by Zohran Mamdani. Mamdani, elected on November 4, is notable for being the first Muslim and South Asian to become the mayor of New York City, the nation's largest city.
