New orleans: The Trump administration is gearing up for a major immigration enforcement operation in New Orleans, Louisiana, slated to begin as early as December 1. According to media reports, this initiative is part of a broader strategy aimed at intensifying immigration control efforts across the United States.
According to Anadolu Agency, approximately 200 federal agents are expected to be deployed to New Orleans. This operation is led by Border Patrol commander Gregory Bovino and involves a significant commitment of resources. Bovino's teams have previously conducted similar operations in other cities governed by Democratic officials, including Chicago, Los Angeles, and Charlotte.
In the Charlotte area, the operation, which has been nicknamed 'Charlotte's Web,' resulted in more than 200 arrests in the past week. A Department of Homeland Security (DHS) official informed CBS News that this particular operation is nearing its conclusion.
Previous immigration raids have sparked protests and accusations of racial profiling and excessive force. However, Trump administration officials have denied these allegations, asserting that arrests are conducted based solely on immigration violations. They also claim that agents have encountered violent resistance during some operations.
Bovino has praised the conduct of his teams, describing their actions as 'exemplary.' Internal DHS documents reveal that Border Patrol has also requested armored vehicles and special operations teams for both Charlotte and New Orleans. Louisiana Governor Jeff Landry, a Republican and supporter of President Trump, has expressed his backing for the administration's immigration enforcement initiatives.
