Ukraine’s President Receives US Draft Plan to Revive Peace Talks

Kyiv: Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has received a new draft plan from the United States aimed at reviving stalled peace negotiations between Moscow and Kyiv. This initiative is seen as a potential catalyst to intensify diplomatic efforts to resolve the ongoing conflict.

According to Anadolu Agency, Zelenskyy's Presidential Office announced that the draft plan was officially received from the American side. The plan is believed to have the potential to enhance diplomatic engagements. Although specific details about the accompanying meeting were not disclosed, Zelenskyy emphasized the fundamental principles important to Kyiv and expressed readiness to work on the plan's points.

The Ukrainian government has shown consistent support for US President Donald Trump's proposals to end the prolonged Russia-Ukraine war since the beginning of the year. Kyiv has expressed its willingness to collaborate with Washington and other international partners to achieve a peaceful resolution.

Zelenskyy is expected to discuss the available diplomatic opportunities and the essential elements needed for peace with President Trump in the coming days. Earlier reports from Ukrainian media, including public broadcaster Suspilne, indicated that Zelenskyy met with a US army delegation in Kyiv, led by Army Secretary Dan Driscoll. This meeting was later confirmed by Zelenskyy on the social media platform X.

Driscoll's visit to Kyiv began on Wednesday, where he engaged in discussions with Defense Minister Denys Shmyhal and met with Prime Minister Yulia Svyrydenko on Thursday. The Presidential Office's statement follows a report by Axios, which revealed that Washington, in coordination with Moscow, has been secretly working on a new 28-point plan to end the conflict that has persisted for over three and a half years.

While the plan's full details remain undisclosed, media outlets such as the Financial Times reported that it includes provisions for Kyiv to cede the Donbas region and significantly reduce its military size. A senior US official confirmed to Anadolu Agency that US Special Envoy Steve Witkoff has been working on the proposal for the past month, incorporating feedback from Ukraine and Russia.

Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov commented on the reports, stating that Moscow has no additional remarks on the settlement process beyond what was discussed between Trump and Russian President Vladimir Putin during their summit in Alaska in August. Peskov acknowledged that while Russia and the US maintain contact, a comprehensive consultation process on Ukraine is not currently in progress.
