South Korean Authorities Extinguish Wildfire in Gangwon Province After 17-Hour Effort

Seoul: South Korean authorities on Friday successfully extinguished a wildfire that scorched approximately 360,000 square meters (89 acres) in the northeastern province of Gangwon after a 17-hour battle.

According to Anadolu Agency, hundreds of personnel, over two dozen helicopters, and numerous pieces of equipment were deployed overnight to combat the fire, which started Thursday afternoon on a hillside in Inje, located about 132 kilometers (82 miles) east of Seoul. Officials reported that no injuries occurred during the incident, though 12 residents from nearby homes were evacuated as a precautionary measure.

An investigation is currently underway to determine the cause of the wildfire and assess the full extent of the damage.
