Singapore: Singapore has imposed financial sanctions and entry bans on four Israeli individuals due to their involvement in acts of violence against Palestinians in the West Bank. The individuals affected by these measures are Meir Mordechai Ettinger, Elisha Yered, Ben-Zion Gopstein, and Baruch Marzel.
According to Anadolu Agency, a statement from Singapore's Foreign Ministry highlighted that these individuals have been involved in significant acts of extremist violence against Palestinians. The ministry emphasized that such actions are unlawful and threaten the prospects of achieving a two-State solution. It reiterated Singapore's stance that Israeli settlements in the West Bank are illegal under international law and that their presence and expansion complicate efforts to reach a viable solution.
Singapore, a proponent of international law and the two-State solution, opposes any unilateral attempts to alter facts on the ground through illegal acts. The ministry urged Israel to restrain acts of settler violence and to ensure accountability for the perpetrators.
This development comes amidst increasing violence in the occupied West Bank, where the Israeli army has intensified its operations following the outbreak of war in the Gaza Strip in October 2023. The conflict has resulted in the deaths of over 1,076 Palestinians and injuries to 10,700 others due to attacks by the army and illegal settlers. Additionally, more than 20,500 people have been arrested in the region.
In a significant ruling last July, the International Court of Justice declared Israel's occupation of Palestinian territories illegal and called for the evacuation of all settlements in the West Bank and East Jerusalem.
