Beirut: One person was killed on Friday in an Israeli airstrike in southern Lebanon, marking a new breach of last year's ceasefire agreement, Lebanese media reported. The state news agency NNA noted that the strike targeted a vehicle on the outskirts of Froun in the Bint Jbeil district, although it did not provide further details.
According to Anadolu Agency, the Lebanese Health Ministry reported that 331 people have been killed and 945 injured by Israeli fire since the ceasefire took effect on November 27, 2024. Moreover, the UN Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL) stated it had recorded more than 10,000 air and ground violations by Israel inside Lebanese territory since the ceasefire. All these violations have been submitted to the UN Security Council.
Tensions have been escalating in southern Lebanon for weeks. The Israeli army has been conducting near-daily air raids inside Lebanese territory, allegedly targeting Hezbollah members and infrastructure. The Israeli military actions have resulted in the deaths of more than 4,000 people and injuries to nearly 17,000 in Lebanon since the operations began in October 2023, escalating into a full-scale offensive by September 2024.
Under the ceasefire terms, the Israeli army was supposed to withdraw from southern Lebanon in January, but it has only partially pulled out and continues to maintain a military presence at five border outposts.
