Istanbul: Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan has called for a decisive and consistent international response against Israel's activities in Gaza, stressing the necessity for intensified diplomatic pressure and unhampered humanitarian aid to the region. "I believe that if the international community shows a determined, consistent and sanction-capable will, it can stop Netanyahu," Erdogan stated following his participation in the G20 leaders' summit in Johannesburg, South Africa.
According to Anadolu Agency, Erdogan criticized Israel for violating the Gaza ceasefire, highlighting Hamas's restraint amidst provocations and stressing the importance of fully implementing the ceasefire. He condemned Israel for breaking commitments and targeting civilians, urging global support for Palestinians in Gaza and emphasizing the urgency of unhindered humanitarian aid.
Erdogan also censured the UN for its ineffective response and called for more robust involvement to address the escalating humanitarian crisis, especially with the advent of winter. He noted that Israel is aware of the illegality and destabilizing effects of its actions.
Turning to the Russia-Ukraine conflict, Erdogan reiterated Trkiye's readiness to mediate, referencing the 28-point peace plan proposed by US President Donald Trump as a potential negotiation basis. He stressed that lasting peace requires mutually agreed terms and negotiation that addresses the legitimate expectations and security needs of all parties involved.
On regional security, Erdogan warned of decisive action if Trkiye's national security is threatened, asserting that while Trkiye respects other nations' sovereignty, it is committed to peace, stability, and security in the region, including Syria, Iraq, and Lebanon.
Erdogan highlighted the significance of inclusive and sustainable economic development, noting that the G20 leaders' summit's theme of "leaving no one behind" aligns with a global pursuit of justice. He underlined the necessity of coordinated international action for sustainable global growth, emphasizing the strategic importance of energy security and inclusivity.
Finally, Erdogan outlined Trkiye's strategic priorities in the face of shifting global alliances, focusing on achieving self-reliance, enhancing domestic production, and bolstering technological and energy capabilities. He stressed the importance of long-term development planning, with the aim of leaving a more advanced Trkiye for future generations.
